🎵

Drift-Free Web Audio Scheduling

Uses AudioContext.currentTime lookahead scheduling — beats stay accurate at any BPM without drifting over time.

🎛️

Flexible BPM Control

Set tempo from 20 to 300 BPM via slider, ±1 buttons, or direct number input. Five one-tap presets from Largo to Presto.

👆

Tap Tempo

Tap the button at least twice to auto-calculate BPM from your rhythm. Averages up to 4 taps for accuracy.

🔢

Four Time Signatures

Switch between 4/4, 3/4, 2/4, and 6/8. The first beat always accents in orange so you never lose the downbeat.

💡

Visual Beat Indicator

Large beat circles flash in sync with the click — accent beat in orange, weak beats in gray — great for visual learners.

🔒

Private & Offline-Ready

Everything runs in your browser with no server calls. Settings persist locally. Works without an internet connection.

How to Use

1

Set Your BPM

Drag the slider, click +/− buttons, or type a number directly. Use a preset (Largo, Adagio, Moderato, Allegro, Presto) for common tempos, or tap the Tap button rhythmically to auto-detect your BPM.

2

Choose a Time Signature

Select 4/4, 3/4, 2/4, or 6/8. The beat indicators update immediately to show the correct number of beats per measure.

3

Start Practicing

Hit the play button or press Spacebar to start. The orange circle flashes on beat 1, gray circles on other beats. Adjust volume with the slider. Settings are saved automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this metronome free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up required. It runs entirely in your browser.
How accurate is the timing?
The metronome uses the Web Audio API's AudioContext.currentTime with lookahead scheduling (100ms window, 25ms polling). This technique is used by professional web audio applications and is significantly more accurate than setTimeout-based approaches, with no drift over long sessions.
What does Tap Tempo do?
Click the Tap button at least twice in rhythm and the BPM is automatically calculated from the average interval between taps (up to 4 taps). This lets you match the tempo of a song you're listening to without counting manually.
Can I use a keyboard shortcut?
Yes — press the Spacebar to toggle play/pause from anywhere on the page (as long as you're not focused on a text input).
Are my settings saved?
Yes. BPM, time signature, and volume are automatically saved to your browser's localStorage and restored the next time you visit.
