Build Your Own Online Toolbox: Bookmark Tools
Stop hunting for the same web tools again and again. Learn how to bookmark useful online tools and websites in one personal start page and build your own custom toolbox.
You found a great online tool last month, used it once, and now you can't remember its name. Browser bookmarks pile up in folders you never open. The fix is a personal online toolbox: one page that holds only the tools and websites you actually use, one click away.
pudone! has this built in. The first tab on the home page is called My, and you decide what lives there.
What the "My" tab is
"My" is your own home screen inside pudone!. It holds two kinds of items:
- Tools from pudone! (converters, timers, formatters and so on).
- Websites you add by URL, shown with the site's own icon.
Everything is stored in your browser (local storage). There is no account to create, and the layout is yours alone. A new visitor gets a recommended starter set, which you can delete or rebuild freely.
Step by step: build your toolbox
1. Add a pudone! tool
There are two quick ways:
- On any tool card, click the ๏ผ corner badge. It turns into โ once the tool is in My.
- Inside a tool page, use the Add to My button in the bottom dock.
A toast confirms the addition. If you remove something by mistake, the toast offers Undo, so there is no confirm dialog to click through.
2. Add any website
- Open the My tab and click Add.
- Switch to the Website tab.
- Enter a URL. If you leave out the protocol,
https://is added for you. Only http/https links are accepted. - Optionally type a title, or an emoji on the left to use as the icon. Leave the emoji empty and the site's favicon is used.
- Click Add website.
Links open in a new tab, so your toolbox stays where it is.
3. Arrange it your way
Long-press an icon for half a second (or click Edit under the grid) to enter edit mode. Then you can:
- Drag cards to reorder them (on touch screens use the โ and โ buttons).
- Tap the colored button to cycle the card's background color.
- Tap โ to remove an item.
- Use the ๏ผ Add tile at the end to add more.
Click Done when finished.
4. Make it feel like yours
- Rename the tab: while "My" is already selected, click it again to give it any title you like.
- Change the logo: on the home page, click the logo at the top and pick your own image. It is shrunk in your browser and saved locally; hover the logo and press the small โ to restore the default.
Two ways to save websites
| Need | Use |
|---|---|
| A quick home screen mixing tools and sites | The My tab |
| A larger, categorized link library with search | My URLs |
| Move your links to another device | My URLs JSON export/import |
My URLs is a standalone tool: automatic favicons, categories, drag-to-sort, search, and Export/Import of a JSON file for syncing between devices. Use My for the handful of things you open daily, and My URLs for the long tail.
Tip: a toolbox works best when it is small. Keep 8 to 12 items you really use, and archive the rest in My URLs.
Why a personal start page beats bookmarks
Browser bookmarks are a flat list that grows forever. A visual grid has advantages:
- Recognition over recall: icons and colors are faster to scan than titles in a folder.
- Mixed content: your converters, timers and favorite sites sit side by side.
- Low friction: adding takes one click, so you actually do it.
One honest limit: data lives in the browser it was saved in. Clearing site data removes it, and it does not sync automatically between devices. For links you can't afford to lose, export them from My URLs.
Ideas for what to put in your toolbox
- Daily utilities: a timer, a calculator, a unit converter.
- Work sites: dashboards, docs, your team wiki.
- Reference sites: a dictionary, a color picker, an API docs page.
- Fun picks: a radio, a game, a site you open when you need a break.
- Research helpers like Internet Museum, which opens the Wayback Machine to view historical snapshots of any site.
FAQ
Do I need an account?
No. The My tab is saved in your browser, so it works immediately.
Will my toolbox sync across devices?
Not automatically. Use the My URLs tool to export your links as JSON and import them on another device.
Can I add sites that are not pudone! tools?
Yes. Use Add, then the Website tab, and paste any http/https URL.
I deleted something by accident. Can I get it back?
Right after removal, press Undo in the toast. You can also re-add items at any time, or use Restore picks to bring back the recommended set when the tab is empty.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. Long-press to edit, and use the arrow buttons to reorder since drag is unreliable on touch.
Summary
A custom toolbox takes two minutes: click ๏ผ on the tools you like, add your favorite websites with Add, then long-press to arrange and recolor. Start with a few items, keep it small, and your most-used tools will always be one click away.
