How to Transfer Files Between Phone and Computer Without a Cable or App

AirDrop only works between Apple devices. Chat apps compress your photos. Cloud drives need an account and upload everything to someone else's server first. If you just want to move a file from the phone in your hand to the laptop on your desk, there is a simpler way: a browser-to-browser transfer.

How it works#

File Transfer uses WebRTC, the same technology behind browser video calls. The two devices are introduced to each other through a lightweight signaling service, then the file data flows directly between them (peer-to-peer). When both devices are on the same Wi-Fi, the transfer stays on your local network and runs at LAN speed.

Step by step#

1. Open pudone.com/file-transfer on your computer. A 6-digit room code and a QR code appear.
2. On your phone, scan the QR code with the camera (or open the same page and type the code).
3. Once the status shows connected, pick or drag files on either side.
4. Watch the progress bar and speed; files are split into 64 KB chunks and reassembled on the other end.

It works in both directions and with any mix of devices: iPhone → Windows, Android → Mac, laptop → laptop.

Tips for faster transfers#

• Same Wi-Fi is fastest. Across different networks the transfer still works, but speed depends on both internet connections.
• Keep the screen on. Mobile browsers pause background tabs, which can stall a transfer.
• Send many files at once. Multi-select is supported, so you don't need to zip them first.
